Here's what to do...

If you’re having trouble sleeping at night because of your back pain, this will not only be an issue for you mentally and physically, but it'll also affect your body’s recovery process. Your body needs rest because it needs the time to repair itself. When you're asleep, you’re not using a lot of energy and your body is able to use this time to heal itself. But if you’re not sleeping well, this will be a major issue in your body’s ability to bring relief to your back pain. Another important note is that when you’re sleeping, your body position can put a lot of pressure on you, so the way you position yourself can make a world of a difference in your healing.

The best way to position your body for a successful recovery is by using pillows or wedges. In order to overcome back pain and sleep again, you can use these pillows or wedges to relieve pain in your back. The best position for you depends on the kind of pain you're having.

PILLOW POSITIONS:

  1. For back sleepers; place the pillow under your legs. The goal with this position is to put your hips in a position that elevates your legs and relieves pressure from your spine. When you sleep on your back, your spine arches but with the bending of your knees will help take away from the pressure that comes along with this arch.

  2. Different pain calls for different positions. If you have chronic back pain, try folding the pillow in half before placing it under your legs. This will bend your knees more and put less pressure on your spine.

  3. Move the pillow up and down your leg depending on your comfort level. You can place the pillow as low as your ankles and feet. Make sure the pillow is the right height for you and work your way down your legs to see how much you need to bend your knees to relieve the right amount of pressure on your spine.

Once you relieve the pressure in your back, you will be able to wake up feeling refreshed and pain-free. Are you ready to go about your day without pain and discomfort? Call or text “BACK PAIN” to 301-900-3226 and we’ll help you get started.
