How to ease your pain:
REST - In order to give your body time to relieve the stress and pressure from your back. You can do this by taking more time than usual to cool down from activities that you are doing, like running errands, grocery shopping, or activities where you have to be standing on your feet for a really long time. Seated rest breaks, lying down, and getting a good night’s rest will help relieve pressure. Rest itself plays a big part in your recovery and helps your body’s healing process.
MODALITIES - The use of modalities (ice, heat, or topical ointments) is also extremely helpful for people who have blown their back out. When you go through activities that stress your back, it can cause your back to swell. Using ice or heat will loosen stiff and tight back backs that make your body hard to move. Other modalities are topical ointments (Icy Hot, Bengay, etc) that can also help relieve pain. Many people use e-stem too. The modality you use depends on your symptoms, so make sure it's targeting your pain. Talk to a physical therapist so that you can find the right modality for you.
MOVEMENT - It might seem strange, but moving around helps to oil your joints, stretch out your muscles, and helps you actually start to feel some long term relief even though it might be uncomfortable to move around at first.
Although we recommend following all of these steps, getting on a program with a physical therapist will help recover and provide your body with more stability by getting to the root of your back pain. Call or text “BACK PAIN” to 301-900-3226 and we’ll help you recover from your back pain.
